A crew from Leary Construction of Greenfield, Ind., worked in frigid temperatures Wednesday to patch a half-dollar size hole in Russells Point’s north water tower (above), estimated to be approximately 70 years old. Mayor Greg Iiams said a small hole that developed about a year ago gave way to a major leak Tuesday afternoon, spewing water that turned to ice crystals on the tower and two neighboring homes (below), downing a limb and causing a power outage for one homeowner. A boil water alert was in effect for residences north of Main Street, east of State Route 708 and to beyond the Orchard Island bridge, according to a village office recording.
