Snow roller

slo-roll

The meteorological phenomenon known as snow rollers have appeared in Logan County. The Examiner has received a number of calls from readers who have noticed them and the Examiner’s Joel Mast spotted these this morning along Ludlow Road south of Bellefontaine. Snowballs are formed when the ground is covered by a layer of ice to which snow will not stick and the wind must be strong enough to move the wet, loose snow that’s on top of the ice — but not strong enough to blow them apart. Frigid temperatures are to continue through Tuesday with perhaps another inch of snow expected. (EXAMINER PHOTO | JOEL E. MAST)
