Carollyn Gantz of rural West Liberty alerted her neighbor, Pat Webb, who possesses a “good camera” to the sightings of an eagle recently along State Route 287 east of the Piatt Castles. Ms. Webb set out Tuesday morning and captured a number of photos, including this one of the eagle soaring high above the ground. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources estimated in 2013 there were 190 nesting pairs of eagles in 62 of Ohio’s counties. They lay eggs in February and March, ODNR officials state, and this is a good time to spot them. The bald eagle has been the emblem of the United States of America since June 20, 1782, and it represents freedom. (PHOTO | PAT WEBB)
