TOLEDO — The Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has awarded a $10,500 grant to Mary Rutan Hospital as part of an effort to award a total of $630,000 in community grants to 18 non-profit organizations in the region.
The grants were presented during the “The Power of the Promise” reception hosted April 30 in the McMaster Center at the Toledo-Lucas County Main Library sponsored by The Andersons.
Tammy Allison, Mary Rutan Foundation chief operating officer, said the grant will be essential in helping to provide preventative services to local women.
“With breast cancer being identified as the second most common type of cancer diagnosis in Logan County and over 38 percent of women over age 40 not receiving recommended mammograms in our community, this grant is extremely important.
“This funding will allow Mary Rutan Hospital to take a planned, managed and organized approach in providing awareness, education and screenings for earlier detection and better breast health outcomes for the residents of Logan County.”
In total this year’s grant funds will support the delivery of: 2,156 mammograms, 426 treatment and support services; 3,325 breast health and educational services; 105 diagnostic procedures such as ultrasounds or biopsies; and 100 clinical breast exams.
In addition, the Northwest Ohio Affiliate distributes over $50,000 in small grants and mission education outreach.
