Christmastime philanthropy

The largesse of one man went a long way toward making local residents’ Christmas a little brighter this year.

On Friday morning and throughout the afternoon, a man who wishes to remain anonymous stood at the layaway desk at Bellefontaine’s Wal-Mart, paying off customer accounts as they came to pick them up, store employees report.

The items he paid for — totaling approximately $30,000 — were primarily toys and gifts for children.

Other donors have made similar gifts in past Christmas seasons, but this was one of the larger amounts given by an individual, employees report.
