Man falls victim to phone scam

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report a 69-year-old Bellefontaine man fell prey to a telephone scam.

A woman claiming to be a friend from the man’s past told him she was going to help him collect a $90,000 jackpot.

The victim told police the woman’s voice sounded familiar so he ignored his own doubts and agreed to wire $1,000 to a “Jean Florentine” in Wichita, Kan.
