LOCAL NOTES: Art on the Beach returns

The Logan County Art League hosts the 8th annual juried art festival Art on the Beach ’15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Oldfield Beach State Park, Lakeview, featuring local artists, food and entertainment.

Members of the Ohio Plein Air Society paint images of the area “live” throughout the venue. Jazz singer Tom Turner performs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, with Dance Fuzion at 3 p.m. and the Shine FM Rock the Lake 2015 concert featuring Colton Dixon. Sunday, the Mad River Valley Dulcimer Society plays at 1 p.m. and the Home Strings Youth Dulcimers and the Riverside School Club begin at 2 p.m.

Admission is free.


Hot Summer Nights raffle tickets available

The Holland Theatre is selling raffle tickets for a $1,000 cash prize to be awarded during the Hot Summer Nights Car Show Aug. 8.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 at the theatre office from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 7 and the day of the show from any club member. Need not be present to win.

Making eating easy, enjoyable again

Regional center assists patients with swallowing, feeding, voice therapies

Attending a backyard barbecue with friends, a dinner out to celebrate a special occasion or partaking of a lunchtime meal in a school cafeteria might sound like leisurely and fun activities. But for adults or children dealing with dysphagia — difficulty in swallowing — the act of eating is not a simple task and the difficulty affects their quality of life.

Field of dreams built from tragedy

Leppich Field rededication is Sunday

While his time in the village was relatively brief, the legacy of Albert Lee “Al” Leppich lives on at the Russells Point ball diamond that bears his name. Leppich Field is set to be formally rededicated at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, in a ceremony with his daughter, Carol Leppich Morey, as guest of honor.
