Ag producers recognized in joint annual meetings

So committed were David and Gina Tighe 10 years ago to their vision for a vibrant, productive agricultural operation, that before they were even married, the couple decided to forego a traditional engagement ring and instead invest in a Jersey dairy herd.

And that commitment has helped the Tighes to expand their farm into a sustainable dairy outfit — one recognized Thursday as Cooperator of the Year by the Logan Soil and Water Conservation District.

Dave and Nancy Knight’s family farm in rural DeGraff was similarly recognized by the Logan County Farm Bureau as the Farm Family of the Year.

Recognitions from both agencies came in conjunction with joint annual meetings staged Thursday in the Winner Harvest Barn. A profile of the Knight family farm as part of their Farm Family of the Year recognition appeared in the March 24 Examiner.

Mr. and Mrs. Knight’s farm is more than 100 years old, spanning 250 acres of crops, hay and pasture. Mr. Knight has long been active with farm bureau and has been a SWCD Supervisor for three years.

“Now, a lot of the grandkids have projects on the farm,” Mr. Knight said. “All of our kids live within two miles so this is a family farm, and the work is shared.”
