Health board names meeting room after former member
Examiner Staff Writer 05/08/08 The Logan County District Board of Health unveiled a plaque at its Wednesday afternoon meeting that designates the health district meeting room as the Dr. Harry L. Graber Room. Dr. Graber, who served on the health board from March 1992 to August 2007 and as board president from April 2002 until his resignation, was on hand for the short dedication ceremony for the room that was completed early last year. “Thank you for your many years of kind service,” former Health Commissioner Dr. William A. Verbsky said. Current Health Commissioner Dr. Boyd Hoddinott talked about Dr. Graber’s time on the health board. “He provided me and the board with very wise council,” he said. “Anyone who came here (to health board meetings) with even the very smallest problem always felt that they were heard. “He brought a kinder, gentler way of doing things.” In regular business, the health board ordered Les Bowman of Piqua, owner of Indian Hills Mobile Home Park, 2499 Township Road 55, to appear at the next board meeting, 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, for a license suspension hearing. Craig Kauffman, director of environmental health, said on a recent inspection of the property, the health district found numerous Ohio Revised Code violations in the areas of manufactured home lots, lighting, sewage, manufactured home connections, solid waste storage and collection and maintenance. In previous years’ inspections, Mr. Kauffman said there have also been repeated violations at the mobile home park. The board also ordered Jerome Newland, owner and operator of Geronimo’s North Campground, 15650 N. State Route 235, Belle Center, to cease operation of the campground until its building plans are approved by the state. Mr. Kauffman said the campground recently added an addition, and the plans for that addition have not yet received state approval, which is required before the health district will issue an operating permit. Nick Johnson of New Hampshire, Ohio, was present at the meeting to request an extension on a order to demolish and remove a collapsing structure on his property at 211 S. Main St. The health district had previously given Mr. Johnson nine months to clear away the structure, and no work was completed during that time, Mr. Kauffman said. Mr. Johnson said he now has the funds to complete renovations to the building, including the installation of a new roof. Members tabled the matter until the next meeting, when they will review whether any progress has been made on the building’s renovations. The board also approved a motion to pay a retainer fee of $87.50 per month for the next year to Clemans-Nelson, the human resource management firm that is assisting the health district with the preparation of a personnel policy manual and writing job descriptions. The retainer fee will allow the health district access to free telephone calls with agency representatives, to lock in a mileage reimbursement rate with the company, along with other benefits. In other action, the board: • accepted the retirement resignation of Kaye Cook, home health nurse, effective May 30; • added the duties of emergency planning assistant to the job description and approved the tuition reimbursement payment of $3,170 to Matt Stonerock, environmental health worker; • approved an annual evaluation for Lisa Engle, environmental health; • approved a probationary evaluation for Kelly Tevis, account billing clerk; • approved an adjustment from $36 per hour to $41 per hour for the registered nurse fee charged to outside entities; • approved variance requests for Richard Petty to maintain a mobile home at 3090 Township Road 182 connected to the residential sewage system; Eric Pfenning of Wapakoneta to maintain an existing well six feet from a garage and 2.5 feet from a housing addition at 11593 Circle Drive, Lakeview; Mark Bodey to install a well six feet from a house and four feet from a property line at 13926 Woll Drive, Lakeview; Tamara Heminger to place a house addition 4 feet from a septic tank at her property along County Road 29; • ordered Chris Gabbard, 7072 Hancock Drive, Russells Point, to dispose of the solid waste on his property within three days; • ordered Kevin James, 2724 Township Road 179, to dispose of the solid waste at his property, 216 N. Park, within three days; and • ordered Helen Neeley of Huntsville to remove all solid waste and debris on her property along County Road 39, Huntsville, within 60 days.
