Calvary anticipates biggest auction yet
Examiner Staff Writer 05/02/08 Parents, staff and friends of Calvary Christian School are excited about the school’s upcoming benefit auction, Saturday, May 10, that is likely to be the biggest fundraiser to date in the 13-year history of the event. “We are estimating that we’ll receive proceeds of about $40,000,” said Principal Larry Czerniak, who is also the organizer of the auction. “We have raised $145,000 in all of our previous auctions combined.” Two featured items, a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan and a 29-foot Gulf Stream Toy Hauler Trailer, are likely to pull in the most cash at the auction, which begins at 10 a.m. at Northeastern Elementary School. The trailer, valued at $15,000, was donated by RV Wholesalers of Lakeview, owned by Mike Durnell and Dave Durnell, who have children at the K-8 school. The trailer features a free-standing dinette, a kitchenette and a bathroom. Both the trailer and the minivan, donated by TS Trim Industries of Canal Winchester, will be parked at the school, located at Calvary Baptist Church, 1140 Rush Ave., next week, and those interested can take a look at them prior to the auction. The list of items up for sale at the auction keeps growing, Mr. Czerniak said. They include a 14K wedding ring set, a John Deere lawn tractor, OSU football tickets, an Orlando vacation package, several pieces of antique furniture, electronics and dozens of theme baskets. Mr. Czerniak said the funds raised will help families at the school by lowering tuition costs. “We understand that it is costly to provide private education for children,” he said. “With the proceeds brought in this year, we estimate that we can save each family about $500.”
