Katie Marie Hale, 32, of 139 Shady Lane Drive, Bellefontaine, was issued a summons for shoplifting Sunday related to an incident at Walmart Supercenter, 2281 S. Main St. Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to the store about 8:25 p.m. in reference to a shoplifting complaint.
Dispatch advised that the female suspect reportedly was attempting to flee the property on foot near the lawn and garden section of the store. Officers located a woman matching the suspect’s description in the parking lot and apprehended Hale, then escorted her to the asset protection office of the store.
Officers reportedly reviewed video footage of Hale selecting a purse in the store about 8 p.m. and then removing the price tag from the purse, and then placing the bag on her shoulder.
She then allegedly selected several items throughout the store, including hair dye, a pair of sandals, makeup and a candle, and placed the items in the stolen purse.
She then reportedly walked out of the store without paying for the items, valued at $97.08.
