Ambulance driver cited related to Sunday crash

Samantha M. Brockwell, 27, of Galion, was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control related to a previously reported single-vehicle injury crash Sunday evening involving a a Mobile Medflight ICU ground unit.

Deputies previously reported Brockwell was operating the northbound ambulance on State Route 117 just north of County Road 96 about 6:45 p.m. when it traveled off the right side of the icy road into a ditch.

The ambulance then overturned onto the driver’s side into a field.

Crew member Charles E. Calissie Jr., 52, of Columbus, was transported by BMRT squad to Mary Rutan Hospital and then was transported to the OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

In addition, Brockwell and two other crew members, Cody Shetler, 25, of Strasburg, and Dale R. Muetzel, 56, address unavailable, each was treated for possible injuries at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
