Firefighters were able to quickly knock down a suspicious fire Friday morning that damaged a car and contents at Hines Garage, 920 S. Detroit St.

Bellefontaine Fire Chief Andy Fissel said his department is continuing its investigation into the source of the fire which was reported at 2:50 a.m.

Flames from the fire burned through plexiglass skylight panes allowing the heat to vent from the structure. Chief Fissel said that saved the roof structure from collapsing.

As for damage, he believed the building which is owned by Wammes Storage & Rentals Ltd. sustained about $10,000 damage while the contents will be valued around $20,000.

About 10 percent of the building was affected by flames while smoke damage was found throughout.

All full-time city firefighters were called into help and West Liberty Fire Department sent two engines and 10 men as mutual aid.
