Woman faces cruelty charges

Brandy N. Durnell, 31, of 300 N. Detroit St., Apt. A, was charged Saturday with two counts of cruelty to animals and was cited for two counts of failure to register dogs.

At 12:45 a.m., officers went to the residence to check on the welfare of two dogs. One was found dead and decaying in a kennel, while another was locked in a kennel covered in feces and under fed. A third dog, which was recently obtained, was in good health.

Durnell acknowledge she did not have food for the dogs and had not provided water for the one locked in a kennel.

The dog locked in a kennel was removed by the Logan County Dog Warden to be checked by a veterinarian.

Motorist charged with OVI

Phillip M. Collins, 45, of Grove City, was charged Sunday with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for having an open container of alcohol and driving under suspension.

Around 11:40 p.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Murphy Oil, 200 Gunntown Road. As an officer arrived, the sport utility vehicle began driving eastbound in the lot.

The motorist stopped in a parking space where the officer initiated a stop.

While talking to him, the officer detected an odor of alcohol. He admitted to drinking six beers and that there were open containers in the vehicle. He also acknowledged he has not had a valid driver’s license since he was 18 years old.

Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence and breathalyzer tests samples were 0.13 and greater.

He was released to a sober friend.
