There is no clear front runner for the vacant 1st Ohio Senate District seat, Sen. Matt Huffman, R-Lima, said Tuesday during a monthly legislative meeting at the Logan County Chamber of Commerce.
Huffman’s district shares two counties with the open district which includes Bokescreek, Richland and Rushcreek townships in Logan County.
He is one of five Republican Senators who will pick a successor for Cliff Hite, who resigned Oct. 17 after admitting to inappropriate behavior with a female state employee.
Huffman said he has yet to receive information on the interested candidates.
He expects it could take a couple of months to select a replacement.
“We’ll have to review the information and then get everybody in the same room at the same time,” Huffman said.
Once schedules are aligned, then the senators can interview the candidates. Then they have to agree on the replacement.
“Last time that took awhile,” he said.
