Air Force birthday

Air Force birthday cake

Bellefontaine resident Bob Notestine completes a U.S. Air Force trivia sheet at the American Legion Harold Kerr Post 173 after cutting the birthday cake to make Monday’s 70th birthday of the branch of the military. Notestine enlisted in the Air Force when it was just four years old on Dec. 7, 1951 — the 10th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He completed a four-year stint on active duty during the Korean War era and an additional four years in the Air Force Reserves. The Legion will host similar events to celebrate the Navy birthday Oct. 13 and Marine Corps birthday on Nov. 10 and will have a Veterans Appreciation Day at noon Nov. 4. (EXAMINER PHOTO | REUBEN MEES)
