Bi-annual school district casino allocations increase

Tax payments clear $200,000 for first time

August payouts to local schools totaled nearly $202,000 combined from four major casinos in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Toledo.

Bi-annual tax payments from the casinos to area school districts combined for $201,959.58, according to reports from the Ohio Department of Taxation.

Bellefontaine City Schools received $65,725.36; Benjamin Logan was paid out $42,860.91; Indian Lake received $42,303.24; Riverside received $17,477.10; Ohio Hi-Point was paid out $18,695.22; and West Liberty-Salem got $14,897.75.

Casino tax payments to local schools are paid out statewide twice per year — in December and August.

Each tax payment to the local schools represented an increase over the previous casino tax payment. Combined, the Logan County-area schools received nearly $20,000 more in tax collections than in December, and 2017 school tax payments are on pace to exceed last year’s total. In 2016, Logan County schools combined to collect more than $350,000 from casino tax funds.
