UPDATE: Student injured in rollover crash identified

Jakob Nelson, 17, of Bellefontaine, was taken to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries after he crashed his vehicle along U.S. Route 68 near State Route 508 shortly before 8 a.m. today, according to troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jakob was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital with facial injuries after being ejected from his southbound vehicle when it traveled off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole and overturned, Macochee public information officer Jeremy Keller reports.

West Liberty firefighters remove a utility pole from the roadway that was damaged in a one-vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 8 a.m. today on U.S. Route 68 near State Route 508.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt. There were no passengers and no one else was injured.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and West Liberty police assisted.

Jakob is a senior at West Liberty-Salem High School and a member of the school's varsity soccer team.

The crash remains under investigation.
