Curtis Johnson, 48, of Sidney, reportedly was operating a westbound SUV about 7:50 p.m. when he struck the rear of the westbound Amish buggy operated by Johnie Wagler, 47, of DeGraff. Mr. Johnson reported the setting sun had prevented him from seeing the buggy.
Mr. Wagler and five occupants of the buggy were transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital. The passengers included Sarah Wagler, 47; John Wagler, 14; Rudy Wagler, 8; Lewis Wagler, 12; and Naomi Wagler, 10, all of DeGraff.
Injuries for Johnie and Sarah were listed as incapacitating, while injuries for each of the children were listed as non-incapacitating.
In addition, another buggy occupant, Lizie Schwartz, 78, of DeGraff, was transported by squad to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney with a possible head wound.
Mr. Johnson did not report any injuries, and he was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
A number of emergency personnel also responded to the scene.
