Flares for the annual Indian Lake Ring of Fire will be lighted at 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31.
This event is one of Indian Lake’s oldest traditions, dating back to 1961 when amusement park manager, A. M. Brown, presented the idea of ringing the lake with flares to the Chamber of Commerce.
The origin of the red flares came from the Seneca tribe of Indians in New York State, who celebrated a bountiful harvest by lighting bonfires around the shores of the lake.
Purchase flares for $3 each at Winner’s Lakeview Market, North Side Clark, Bud’s Marine, C&S Farm Market, Downtown Discount Grocery, Rite Aid, Cranberry Resort, Tecumseh Landing, Aries Pharmacy, Spend-A-Day Marina, Indian Lake Outfitters, Hurley’s Farm Market, Lakeview Hardware, Community Market, Choice Properties and Framing By Fuller.
