Chase M. Whiting, 23, of 6761 Lima St., Huntsville, was charged Tuesday with obstructing official business and arrested on warrants for criminal trespass and violating a protection order.
Acting on a tip, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department began checking Hyland Hills shopping plaza, 870 E. Sandusky Ave., for a red sport utility vehicle and spotted the suspect in a rear seat around 4:30 p.m.
They stopped the SUV on the east side of the plaza. As officers approached the driver, a white female in her 20s, put the vehicle in gear and sped off first northbound then westward.
At the west end of the plaza, the suspect and another male jumped out and ran.
The suspect was caught after running more than 100 yards along a stockade fence. The other male evaded the officers and the driver left the SUV only to return while officers were busy chasing the male suspects.
She drove off in the SUV. It was later found at a county residence.
The apprehended male suspect was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
