SHERIFF BEAT: Scam reported

LoCoSheriff-Star

Deputies spoke with Sandy S. Knotts, 106 Lind St., Russells Point, Tuesday afternoon regarding a scam.

Ms. Knotts said she had been contacted by individuals claiming to represent Cash America, who informed her that she was approved for a loan.

Then on two occasions, Ms. Knotts purchased and mailed Green Dot Moneypak prepaid cards to pay for supposed transaction fees.

She later contacted representatives of a local Cashland store and she was informed that the loan was not legitimate and was not affiliated with the company.

Stolen vehicle recovered

Champaign County officials contacted Logan County deputies late Monday evening regarding a stolen pickup that was recovered in the Urbana area.

The pickup was registered to David Lawson, 5126 County Road 168, West Liberty. Mr. Lawson told deputies that he hadn’t realized the pickup was missing, but that it likely had been taken from his property sometime Monday afternoon.

• Russell J. Thompson of Marysville reported Monday morning that his golf cart was taken from a yard at 11464 Hiawatha Path, Chippewa, Lakeview.

His golf cart was then located on an adjacent property. The windshield had been broken, and a garage door opener and tools had been stolen from the golf cart.
