Teens charged following theft of golf carts

LoCoSheriff-Star

Mekko E. Wharton and Raylon N. Jarret, both 16 and of Columbus, each was charged with the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle following the theft of several golf carts Saturday at Kamp-A-Lott, 1888 S. County Road 25, Zanesfield.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the campground about 6:25 p.m. in reference to the golf cart thefts.

Witnesses reported that they had observed two subjects riding around on golf carts at the campgrounds throughout the day. Five golf carts had been misused by the suspects, and four of the golf carts had already been returned to the respective owners.

The teen suspects were located at lot 48, and the pair turned over the final missing golf cart to deputies. They were arrested and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Deputies report that this incident does not appear to be related to a rash of golf cart thefts reported in the Chippewa Park area Friday morning.
