Victor L. Medina, 49, of 229 Plumvalley St., was injured today after he was struck by a CSX freight train around 1 a.m.

He was found bloodied but conscious underneath the connection of the first and second cars southwest of the Chillicothe Avenue crossing.

A Bellefontaine squad transported him from the scene to the helipad and he was transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of a head injury and shoulder injuries.

He was very intoxicated, according to officers and medics.

The engineer of the 101-car train said he observed a human body laying between the rails and locked up the brakes. The 8,200-ton combined weight train stopped 216 feet past the victim.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department continue their investigation into the incident.
