URBANA — A Richwood man was arrested earlier this week on murder and other charges in the death of a child rape suspect who was hospitalized after a jail assault.
Defendant Zachary Butler was in jail at the time of the assault on charges of resisting arrest and drunken driving. He was indicted last week on charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, reckless homicide and tampering with evidence.
Union County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Tom Morgan says the 24-year-old Butler was arrested Tuesday in Plain City. Jail records don't list an attorney for him.
Champaign County Sheriff's deputies report inmate David Piersol was the victim of an assault on April 5 at Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg and died a few days later.

URBANA — A Champaign County grand jury has indicted a Richwood man in the death of a Tri-County Regional Jail inmate that occurred in April.
David Piersol, seen in a 2009 photo posted to Facebook, died at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton after he was assaulted at the Tri-County Jail.
Zachary R. Butler, 24, has been charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, reckless homicide and tampering with evidence.
The murder charge carries with it a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talebi.
According to the April 12 Examiner, the victim, David Piersol, 39, of Union County was assaulted while he was in the general housing unit of the jail, and later died as a result of his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office concluded its investigation into the incident in July, and that investigation was presented to a grand jury on Friday.
Mr. Piersol was facing charges that included rape, gross sexual imposition and sexual battery.
The suspect has a pending charge in Logan County for felonious assault and has failed to appear for hearings related to that charge as recently as July 28, and also has felony charges out of Union County for assault-related incidents.
