Clayton G. Puff, 23, of 191 E. Center St., West Mansfield, was charged with child endangering following an incident Wednesday afternoon in West Mansfield.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 151 E. Center St. about 2:20 p.m. in reference to a small child playing in the street.
Deputies spoke with employees of Reames Garage, who reported that the boy had come onto the business property, and then he left, running east toward his residence at 191 E. Center St.
Deputies went to the boy’s address, and observed a man sleeping in a chair in the living room area. After knocking on the door for several minutes, the man, Mr. Puff, finally woke up.
A back door to the home was open, and after walking outside, deputies found the boy, age 2, inside a vehicle. The boy reportedly had closed himself in the vehicle, and he was wet with perspiration, deputies said.
Mr. Puff told deputies he wasn’t aware that his son had wandered outside. He said he had worked the night shift the previous evening and had fallen asleep. He was transported to the Logan County Jail.
A report was forwarded to Logan County Children’s Services regarding the incident.
