COUNTY BEAT: Man arrested after tire slashing incident at reception



Erick L. Winegardner, 24, of Kenton, was charged with two counts of criminal damaging following an incident during a wedding reception Saturday evening at the West Mansfield Conservation Club, 701 S. Main St.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff's Office responded to that location about 10 p.m. in reference to a male suspect slashing vehicle tires in the parking lot.

After talking with witnesses, Mr. Winegardner was identified as the suspect. He reportedly damaged tires on two vehicles owned by Christi Moon and Athena Brown, both of Kenton. He was arrested and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

Teen charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle

Daniel J. Hopkins, 19, of Grove City, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, obstructing official business and improper backing Saturday morning.

Deputies responded about 7 a.m. to a report of a hit/skip crash in the 10600 block of County Road 293. A witness observed that five mailboxes and a utility pole at that location had been struck by a vehicle.



A short time later, Clarence McIntire, 11191 C.R. 293, Lakeview, reported that he suspected one of his girlfriend’s nephews had driven his vehicle overnight. The vehicle was parked back at the residence and it had sustained moderate damage.

Mr. Hopkins was identified as a suspect, and deputies located him in the area of State Route 235 and C.R. 293. At first, he provided deputies with a false name. He eventually admitted to driving Mr. McIntire’s vehicle and damaging the mailboxes. He was lodged in the jail.

No injuries reported in U.S. 33 crash

Garret Winter, 21, of Zanesfield, was cited for failure to control following a non-injury crash about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 28.

He reportedly was operating an eastbound van when he drove off the right side of the road, through a fence and into a wooded area and struck several trees. Damage was moderate to the van.

• Richard J. Valentine, 23, of Russells Point, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead following a crash about 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

He was operating a vehicle on State Route 235 near Chickasaw Path when he struck the rear of a vehicle in front of him operated by Cory Brunsold, 38, of Milford Center, that had slowed for traffic. No injuries were reported.

• Deputies also responded to a report of a one-vehicle rollover crash about 8:10 p.m. Monday in front of 13840 N. State Route 235. Indian Lake EMS and Lakeview Fire Department also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported, and no further information was available at press time.
