All things limestone

ABOVE: Jim White of the Piatt Castles demonstrates limestone carving techniques for members of a group that attended a workshop at Castle Mac-O-Chee on Saturday evening. Limestone, a versatile building material with a natural outcropping in this area, was used in nearly every facet of the Piatt Castles’ construction more than 150 years ago, including the large stones and mortar that form the outer walls, the plaster on the interior walls and even  in the painted frescoes that adorn the walls, Mr. White told the participants.
