Logan County Sheriff's deputies report West Mansfield area resident Norman J. Laferriere, 25, and Marco A. Acosta, 26, of LaRue, were pronounced dead at the scene of Friday evening's two-vehicle crash in Union Township.
Reports indicate Mr. Acosta was driving a northbound 2005 Hyundai Elantra on County Road 31 about 6:30 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2006 GMC Envoy traveling west on County Road 43. After impact, the Acosta car struck a utility pole near the intersection.
Mr. Acosta was wearing a seat belt but his passenger, Mr. Laferriere, was not, according to reports.
A passenger in the Envoy, Roger D. Woods, 28, of DeGraff, was transported by Med Flight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday morning.
The vehicle's driver, Christina Woods, 31 also of DeGraff, was taken by Robinaugh EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital. She was treated and released.
Three other occupants in the vehicle were treated at the scene and released.
All occupants in the Envoy were wearing seat belts or were properly restrained in child safety seats, deputies said.
Deputies were assisted by the DeGraff, West Liberty and Bellefontaine fire departments, Riverside EMS, Macochee Joint Ambulance District, and the multi-county crash investigation team.
There have been five traffic fatalities in Logan County this year.
The crash remains under investigation.
