UNIOPOLIS — Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon announced in a press release issued this morning that his office is investigating the previously reported death of Charles E. Hicks, 54, of Uniopolis, as a murder.
Monday afternoon, deputies were dispatched to 2 S. Main St. in the village on a welfare check for an individual who had not been seen recently by friends or co-workers.
The man was found deceased in his apartment. His body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner's Office in Toledo for an autopsy.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the cause of death was not natural and were caused by another, the sheriff said.
The sheriff’s office is not releasing any particulars on the cause of death or circumstances to avoid jeopardizing the investigation. Deputies and detectives continue to investigate any and all leads developed, along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
“Again, anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the detectives,” Sheriff Solomon said. “This office is working hard to solve this case and would welcome any helpful information.” Detectives can be reached at (419) 739-6555.
