Nino Vitale of Urbana emerged Tuesday as the winner among three candidates to represent most of Logan and Shelby counties, and all of Champaign County in Ohio’s 85th House of Representatives district.
Mr. Vitale recorded 7,055 total votes, easily beating out Doug Chamberlain of Bellefontaine (4,434) and Robert Luckey of Sidney (1,492), according to unofficial results from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
As expected, Mr. Vitale ran up wide margins in his home county, but he also came in first in his opponents’ backyards in Logan and Shelby counties.
Mr. Vitale won Champaign County with 2,314 votes to 1,136 for Mr. Chamberlain and 364 for Mr. Luckey; he won Logan County with 2,829 votes to 2,467 for Mr. Chamberlain and 270 for Mr. Luckey; and he won Shelby County with 1,912 votes compared to 858 for Mr. Luckey and 831 for Mr. Chamberlain.
Mr. Vitale has no Democratic opposition in November, and will run unopposed to replace outgoing Rep. John Adams of Sidney, who endorsed Mr. Vitale during the campaign.
