Russells Point police levy fails

Two other township fire issues approved

For a second consecutive election, voters in Russells Point narrowly rejected a continuing levy to pay for the local police force.

The 3-mills continuing levy was turned down by voters 110-104, according to unofficial results from the Logan County Board of Elections.

The levy would have generated about $94,000 per year to help fund the department, and was meant to replace the allocation currently made to the police department from the village’s General Fund.

The issue also failed by six votes, 133-127, last November.

In McArthur Township, a 1.25 mills renewal levy for fire protection services passed 346-118. That levy generates about $40,000 per year for the township.

Additionally, a five-year .8 mill renewal of a Stokes Township Central Fire District issue passed 509-254. A total of $120,000 is generated annually by this levy.
