Nate T. Brown, 26, of 7772 County Road 26, West Mansfield, was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for failure to drive in the marked lanes of the road and driving while texting.
An officer reported he was on patrol around 2:15 a.m. southbound in the 200 block of Ludlow Road. A northbound car was coming at him head-on when the officer swerved to the right to avoid a collision.
He stopped the suspect in the 500 block of Eastern Avenue. The driver admitted to sending a text message to his girlfriend at the time of the near collision.
He was unsteady on his feet when he got out of the car. He refused any field sobriety tests but he did agree to submit breathalyzer samples. Those tests show a 0.144 blood alcohol content level nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08.
• Aguilito J. Barron, 38, of 3691 Township Road 205, DeGraff, was charged Friday with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for failure to drive in the marked lanes of the road, speed, expired driver’s license and failure to use a safety belt.
He was observed at 11:55 p.m. westbound in the 400 block of Eastern Avenue. An officer reports he was making erratic corrections as he drove. At Eastern and Ludlow Road, he stopped his sport utility vehicle past the stop bar and into the intersection before turning southbound.
The officers checked his speed at 40 mph in a 25 mph zone and noticed more lane violations. A traffic stop was completed in the 800 block of Ludlow.
Field sobriety tests indicated impairment and the motorist submitted breathalyzer samples of 0.161, twice the legal limit.
