The caboose that has been on display near the Lake Avenue entrance of the Logan County Fairgrounds since 1994 was moved Sunday to the Logan County History Center’s new transportation museum in time for the facility’s open house the last weekend of the month. CSX crews assisted local workers in the movement of the 23,000-pound vehicle, painted to reflect New York Central equipment, although it was not, in recognition of the importance of NYC to the community. About 110 engines passed daily through Bellefontaine during World War II years. The caboose was acquired by the Logan County Historical Society from the former Dutch Mill Drive-In near Zanesfield in conjunction with the relocation of U.S. Route 33. It will sit on a concrete pad at the rear of the 521 E. Columbus Ave. facility. (EXAMINER PHOTO | MIRIAM BAIER)
