A lifelong love of the Cincinnati Reds was celebrated Monday for Heartland of Bellefontaine resident June Herge, 91, who received a full-fledged ballpark-themed party in her honor on the Reds’ opening day.

While partaking of hot dogs, cracker jack and cotton candy, Ms. Herge and other Heartland residents — many of them wearing Reds jerseys or T-shirts — watched the ball game on a bigscreen TV.

The honored resident was thrilled to walk into the surprise party that was arranged as a part of the facility’s Heart’s Desires program, which grants special wishes to long-term residents.

“I knew some sort of surprise was coming today, but I didn’t know what it was. This is just so fun,” said the longtime Bellefontaine resident, who has five children, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
