MARYSVILLE — Mumps cases linked to the Ohio State University are now considered a community-wide outbreak and the Union County Health Department is encouraging the community to take precautions against the illness.
UCHD is also investigating two suspected cases of mumps in the county. Health department public information officer Jennifer Thrush said the first case was reported Monday afternoon and the second one was reported Tuesday. Patients in both cases sought treatment from a healthcare provider after experiencing their symptoms.
Associated Press reports indicate 70 of the 87 confirmed cases reported Thursday are linked to OSU. Fifty-eight are students, and seven are staff.
