Winners from AMVETS poster contest announced

Indian Lake Elementary students recently participated in the AMVETS National Americanism poster contest, and pupils Kaitlyn Boberg, Allison Culp, Lauren Barhorst, Emery Wagner, Maddux Hall and Reid Vance were named as the winners.

The posters were judged by the AMVETS Ladies Auxillary Post 39. Cash prizes were given to those who placed in first, second and third place. Honorable mention award winners received a stickers and a bookmark with the U.S. Presidents.

Art teacher Terry Nelson led the kindergarten and first-grade students in a discussion and art lesson about the American flag. Students in grades 2-4 were asked to write about what America means to them, as well as draw a picture using patriotic images. They also learned about the sacrifices made by soldiers and practiced how to say “thank you” to a veteran.
