Cheryl A. Logan, 55, of 1441 S. Main St., was found dead on the floor of her apartment just before noon Saturday. She had a significant history of health issues, Chief Brandon Standley reported Sunday.
Her husband, Charles Logan, returned home after several days out of town to find her. He last talked with Friday morning.
Her body had been damaged by five dogs living with the couple, the chief said.
"There was no way we could identify the victim or how she died based on the condition of the body," he said, noting the damage occurred after Ms. Logan died.
Officers and investigators treated the house as a crime scene and held it as such until Sunday.
Ms. Logan's body was taken Saturday to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office for an autopsy at the direction of the Logan County Coroner's Office.
A report on the cause of death came Sunday morning.
