Residential gas leak shuts down north Main

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department and firefighters of the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department helped seal off north Main Street between  Lafayette and Reynolds avenues at about 4:35 p.m. Friday after Vectren Energy crews requested emergency help.

The crews were at 928 N. Main St. and found levels of natural gas capable of fueling explosion.

They asked for traffic to be stopped and diverted from the area.

Firefighters responded with an engine, a squad and the department prevention truck while the police sent a cruiser.

They were on the scene for 11⁄2 hours.
