Belle Center village officials have begun weighing their options on whether to continue providing trash collection services as the fund shows signs of bottoming out by the end of the year.
“We brought this to council today because we thought this is something council needs to consider before the fund runs to zero or runs in the red,” Fiscal Officer Chris Dinovo said at the Tuesday council meeting, proposing the matter be vetted by the village finance committee before council takes any action.
The issue, which was first broached by Mayor Rhonda Fulmer at a meeting nearly a year ago, came up again as the fiscal officer was putting together the village’s final budget.
The trash collection fund is expected to draw very close to a zero end-of-the-year balance, which also prompted council to delay approving the permanent budget that is due by the end of the month until a special meeting that was set for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20.
