Judge reports large increase in community control defendants

Bellefontaine Municipal Court Judge Ann Beck addressed a gathering Thursday noon of the Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club.

She outlined the responsibilities of her court, which handles all traffic, misdemeanor, small claims, civil, animal abuse and zoning cases.

Bellefontaine Municipal Court also handles initial bond hearings in felony-level cases.

With drugs a growing problem, the number of people subject to community control has increased.

Judge Beck said that in 2011 Logan County Adult Parole Authority supervised 42 people. Currently, there are 166 people subject to community control sanctions.

Judge Beck said that safety is a top priority for her court, and the use of teleconferencing has made it much easier and safer to conduct hearings.
