Local residents may have their flood insurance affected by updated maps being prepared for the National Flood Insurance Program in a project contracted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
And residents near Possum Run Creek in Bellefontaine could be among the most affected, as the old maps situated the creek in the wrong location, a group of city and county civil servants learned Tuesday in a meeting at the Logan County Engineer’s Office.
Representatives from the consulting firm Michael Baker Corporation told the group that included Logan County Engineer Scott Coleman, Bellefontaine City Engineer Tim Notestine and Logan County EMA Director Helen Norris that data gathered for the updated maps showed that underground stretches of Possum Run Creek were misplaced on the old plans, which date to the 1980s.
