Deputies received a report Tuesday morning from an 80-year-old Logan County resident who said he had been the victim of a scam.
The resident advised that he received a call from a person claiming to be his grandson, and the caller said he needed money to get out of a situation in Mexico. The victim then reportedly wired money as instructed by the caller.
The same caller contacted the victim a second time and requested additional funds. The victim became suspicious and contacted the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Andrew J. Smith said his office receives reports of this type of scam periodically, and deputies want residents to be wary of callers asking for funds in this way.
