NEW UPDATE: Suspect sought in pedestrian fatality

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department have not yet received any new information regarding a pedestrian fatality early Sunday morning in the 900 block of south Main Street.

Monica Plank, 34, of Stafford, Va., a Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, was struck by a northbound vehicle around 12:17 a.m. and later died from the injuries.

She was walking north in the northbound lanes and was hit on a Blue Jacket Creek overpass.

Officers and paramedics of the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department found her critically injured and she was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital.

She was later flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where she was pronounced dead at 4:02 a.m.

Mrs. Plank had left 68 Grill, 1141 S. Main St., walking northbound in the outside northbound lane of traffic because of snow- and ice-covered sidewalks along the roadways. Her husband, Chris, a Logan County native who is also a Marine gunnery sergeant, was about 100 to 200 feet behind her.

An unidentified vehicle struck Mrs. Plank and continued without stopping.

Anyone with information about the crash or who may have been traveling in the area at that time is asked to contact the Bellefontaine Police Department at 599-1010 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
