Police handle crash reports

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to three crashes Wednesday in less than a two-hour period.

Around 10:30 a.m., they were called to Lake Avenue and Greenwood Street after a westbound sport utility vehicle operated by Christopher P. Thornburg, 23, of West Liberty, hit the rear of another SUV operated by Teresa E. Peterson, 46, of Bellefontaine.

Mr. Thornburg was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead. Damage was moderate to the vehicles.

One citation was issued in an 11:05 a.m. crash in the 100 block of east Columbus Avenue.

Shirley A. Tracey, 78, of Huntsville, was westbound and stopped for a traffic light. Her car was hit in the rear by a car operated by Shannon Leann Stratton, 34, of Bellefontaine, who told police her car slid on the icy roadway. Ms. Stratton was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead. Damage was light.

At 11:40 a.m., officers responded to Ludlow and Brennen roads for a two-vehicle crash.

Donna K. Weeks, 56, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to control. She was driving a westbound car which slid on the ice-covered roadway. It struck a northbound pickup truck operated by Don D. Lattimer Jr., 52, of Woodstock. Damage was heavy to the car and minor to the pickup.

• A Street Department plow operator was cited for a stop sign violation Tuesday after a 1:30 p.m. crash at Whispering Pines Lane and Township Road 179.

Alvin Warner, 60, of Bellefontaine, was operating an eastbound city plow and drove into the path of a northbound car operated by Peggy J. Gunnett, 27, of Bellefontaine. Damage was heavy to the car and light to plow.
