Officers of the Washington Township Police Department responded to the couple’s residence in Cottonwood Trailer Park about 8 p.m. after a neighbor reported a domestic dispute. The neighbor said that a male subject had been stabbed.

When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with Mr. Rice, who was outside the home. He had sustained knife wounds to his face.

Officers then had to force their way into the residence, where they spoke with Ms. Smith. She also had sustained minor knife wounds as well.

The couple reportedly had been involved in a dispute that evening while they both had been drinking, and one of the defendants had introduced the knife during the altercation. A blood-stained knife was recovered at the scene.

Ms. Smith was treated at the scene by Indian Lake squad members and was transported to the Logan County Jail. Mr. Rice was transported by Indian Lake squad to Mary Rutan Hospital. Following his treatment, he also was arrested and was transported to the Logan County Jail.
