3 transported to hospital following deer crash

SR47-deer-minivan-acc-copyA driver and two passengers each was transported by Bellefontaine and Indian Lake squads to Mary Rutan Hospital following a crash Monday evening in the 6600 block of west State Route 47 near Township Road 33. Officers of the Washington Township Police Department report that Leo A. Mitchell, 83, of DeGraff, was operating a westbound minivan about 6:10 p.m. when his vehicle struck a deer. The deer hit the vehicle’s windshield and landed in the laps of the driver and front seat passenger, Wava J. Mitchell, 79, of DeGraff. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell and a back seat passenger, Diana K. Mitchell, 56, of Florida, each was transported to the hospital. Officers report that the deer was decapitated inside the vehicle. Damage was heavy to the minivan, which was towed from the scene.
