Patrolling officer interrupts robber

A DeGraff teen was arrested Sunday after he was observed outside Chakeres Theaters, 888 E. Sandusky Ave., dressed in black and wearing a ski mask.

Dyllan T. Laber, 19, of 315 Race St., was charged with aggravated robbery following a brief chase, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.

He was spotted in the shadows near the theater around 12:40 a.m. and took off running westward when Sgt. Chris Marlow used a spotlight to illuminate him.

Sgt. Marlow, one of the department’s canine officers, pursued in his cruiser and pulled alongside the suspect. He warned the suspect to stop or he would release his dog.

The officer could clearly see the defendant was carrying a pistol and drew his own weapon as he came to a rolling stop. The suspect immediately dropped the handgun and laid face first on the sidewalk.

A cellular phone and pepper spray were taken from the suspect. The gun was a realistic looking, unloaded pellet gun.

He agreed to talk to police and admitted he intended to rob the theater. He told them he was a former employee and needed money for college.

He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
