With the end of the calendar year quickly approaching, officials with the village of Russells Point and Verizon Wireless announced this week that a project to improve cellular communications at Indian Lake has come full circle after starting earlier in 2013.
A temporary Verizon Wireless cell tower was installed this fall behind the Russells Point Municipal Building, and it is now fully operational. With the new tower comes an enhanced 4G Long Term Evolution wireless voice and data service in the village, adding capacity that will be especially important during the area’s busy summer months, according to a Verizon press release.
A permanent tower will be installed in the near future in the area by the water treatment plant along Elliott Road.
Much of the push for this improved cellular service came as a result of the efforts of Sgt. Ryan Furlong, Logan County Sheriff’s Office communications supervisor, and Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof, according to the release.
