Document shredding event slated Saturday
The Bellefontaine High School DECA student organization and RTC Industries have teamed up to help area residents fight identity fraud — a crime that affects more than 11 million Americans each year — with an event slated for Saturday.
“Shred Your Worries Away Before the Holidays” offers confidential document shredding services from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at RTC Industries, 36 County Road 32. The suggested contribution is $1 or one canned good per box to be shredded, and all proceeds will benefit Our Daily Bread.
“Identify theft is the most prevalent white collar crime in the U.S. today,” Katie Rychener, DECA adviser and BHS marketing teacher, said in an e-mail.
“Consumers can protect themselves by destroying personal documents on their own or with a reputable source such as RTC.”
